Panel & Service Upgrades

Electrical Panel Upgrades in Stockton & Northern California

Your panel is the heart of your home's electrical system. If it's full, outdated or one of the brands known to fail, an upgrade makes the whole house safer and gives you room for EV chargers, heat pumps and new circuits.

Process

How it works

  1. We look at the panel, the service and what you want to add, then run a load calculation.
  2. You get a written price before any work starts. No surprises.
  3. We pull the permit and file the service application with PG&E, MID, SMUD or Lodi Electric.
  4. Install day: power is usually off for part of one day. We label every circuit.
  5. We pass the inspection and coordinate the utility reconnect.

Pricing

What affects the price

Every job gets a written price before work starts, and estimates are always complimentary. These are the things that move the number.

  • Panel replacement only vs. a full service upgrade
  • Whether the meter or service entrance has to move
  • Overhead vs. underground service
  • Number of circuits that need to be reconnected or corrected
  • Utility requirements and permit fees in your city

Questions

Electrical Panel Upgrades FAQs

How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?

If your panel is a Federal Pacific, Zinsco or fuse panel, is full, trips often, or you're adding a big load like an EV charger or heat pump, it's time to have it looked at. We'll tell you honestly whether you need a new panel, a service upgrade, or neither.

How long does a panel upgrade take?

The install itself usually takes one day. The longer part is the utility: a service upgrade needs an application and a scheduled reconnect, which can take a few weeks depending on PG&E, MID, SMUD or Lodi Electric. We manage that timeline for you.

Do you pull permits?

Yes, every time. Panel and service work requires a permit and inspection in every city we serve. We're licensed under CA C-10 #1149483.

Is a 200-amp service enough?

For most homes, yes, even with an EV charger. Homes adding several large loads (EV, heat pump, induction range, spa, ADU) may need more, or a load-management device can avoid an upgrade. A load calculation settles it.

Are Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels really dangerous?

Both have a long track record of breakers that fail to trip under overload. We recommend replacing them rather than repairing them.
